SEMAS, the abbreviated popular name of Soroban (Abacus) Education and Mental Arithmetic System, has introduced a Japanese Abacus system which is Powerful Brain and Skills Development courses aimed at not only improving children's mental arithmetic ability, but also abilities like the ability to memorise, concentrate, speed read and listen, process information, insight and fine motor movement (which is linked to intelligence). At the same time SEMAS aims at creating a love for maths. |

SEMAS South Africa will be honoured with a PAMA membership on the 29 August 2010 at the 11th PAMA Competition in Malaysia. Only 1 abacus institution per country is chosen on merit and SEMAS SA were selected. Marlene Ras will be going to Malaysia to accept this membership.

Before you choose an abacus institution consider the following:
- Ask whether the Abacus Company is affiliated to any international organization.
- Find out whether the Abacus Instructor has obtained recognized Certificate of all Levels to conduct the classes.
- Enquire who has started the Company and from where he/she has learned.
- Find out whether the Abacus Company is organizing National and International Competitions.
- Ensure the Abacus Certificate issued by the Institution has International value.
- Find out whether the Abacus Company’s students will participate at the PAMA International competition and Mental Calculation World Cup Annually.

- misguide and misdirect educational institutes
- through fake syllabus and course materials
