Falling or Descending Damp
More than often it's found that falling damp can be associated with leaking roofs, poorly waterproofed flashings, parapets and leaking balconies. Moisture penetrates the substrate at the origin of the leak and travel downwards down the substrate.
As with Rising & lateral damp similar symptoms are visible:
- Blistering
- Salt-ridden, bubbling and flaky paint
- White salt powdered residue
- Powdery disintegrating mortar and plaster
In most cases the damp can be treated by applying good housekeeping and looking out for the following:
- Balcony tiles which have lifted from the surface
- Cracked grout between tiles
- Leaking gutters and downpipes
- Leaking roofs
- Windows sills, plaster bands and parapet walls which have not been waterproofed
