GCR800-MS
The handheld multiapplication stand-alone reader, with dual smart card interface
The GCR800-MS from Gemplus gives you all the advantages of a standalone smart card reader. Based on GemCore technology, the hand-held GCR800-MS accepts all memory or microprocessor cards and can manage several applications at once. The GCR800-MS can handle several Security Access Modules (SAMs), meaning that each application is secure and individually protected. A dual smart card interface allows the reader to support read/write functions simultaneously for two smart cards. Compact yet flexible The GCR800-MS was designed for smart card applications requiring portable readers. With all multiapplication capabilities in a single unit, the GCR800-MS is the ideal reader for e-purse, loyalty, healthcare or driver's license programs. The GCR800-MS Product Range In response to specific customer needs and budgets, the GCR800-MS is supplied in three versions:
The GCR800-MS is available in 0-, 2- or 4-SAM versions, enabling up to four applications to coexist separately and securely in the reader. Its GemCore architecture provides a real-time clock and software portability between the GCR800-MS and other readers in the Gemplus mulit-SAM (MS) range. Thus, application software developed for other readers is compatible with the GCR800-MS, bringing added mobility to existing programs. Dual-Slot Reader With its dual smart card interface, the GCR800-MS can read and authenticate two cards at one time. This capability is ideal for applications in which two cardholders need to perform mutual authentication or electronic signature functions, such as healthcare or identity applications. the dual smart card interface provides two connectors in a single slot, with access to the second card connector subject to the presence of a card in the first. Multifunction Docking Station The GCR800-MS docking station provides for both connectivity and battery recharging. Data travels between the reader and its docking station through an infrared interface. The station has an integrated modem for the transfer of transaction ledgers to a central server for further processing. An RS-232 port can connect the docking station to a PC, either to upload data from the reader, or to download software applications and data to the reader. A Gemplus development kit enables software engineers to easily build their own applications. Technical specifications
